Recently, we got an email from a reader from Maryland, who has lived in Utah for seven years but is missing the trees of the east coast. They wanted ideas for some quick tree getaways, without necessarily having to ski, hike, or camp in the mountains. While we may not have the dense forests of the east coast, we do have quaint mountain towns that give off that quintessential charm.
You’ll always get the best tree views on the drive up to Park City (located 45 minutes east of SLC).
- 🍂 Guardsman Pass. When the leaves start to change color in the fall, the trees along this scenic byway lend a stunning mix of red, orange, and gold.
- Historic Main Street. Maybe our closest thing to Stars Hollow if Stars Hollow was an affluent ski town.
A hop, skip, and a jump (aka 30 minutes) from Ogden.
- ⛸️ Huntsville Town Park. In the warmer months enjoy outdoor concerts here and in the colder months there’s a large seasonal ice rink.
- ⭐ Shooting Star Saloon. This local watering hole is Huntsville’s oldest establishment, originally built in 1850 as a mercantile. They’re known for their burgers and around $18,000 in cash pinned to the ceiling.
Midway feels like a Hallmark movie come to life. Located about 30 minutes south of Park City.
- 🚂 Heber Valley Railroad. A fun way to take in the sights.
- 🎄 Midway City Tree Lighting. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. The festivities include cookies, cocoa, and Santa Claus.
What’s more east coast than a diner? Venture about an hour east of SLC to Oakley.
- 🥞 Oakley Diner. This diner made its debut at the 1939 New York World Fair. Over the years it was relocated to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, before making its way to Oakley, Utah in 2007.
- 🛷 Summit Wagon & Sleigh. When winter rolls around, take a horse-drawn carriage around Peoa.
