| Salt Lake City is writing up new rules around Flock cameras — the automated license plate readers that have raised privacy concerns among residents. [Salt Lake City Cast 🎧] | - SLC wants a paper trail: City Council Chair Alejandro Puy is drafting an ordinance which would require police to log a case number before using license plate readers, aiming to stop agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from tapping them for civil immigration cases. - Utah’s ACLU wants stricter rules. Its legal director says SLC is headed in the “right direction” but would like to see a warrant requirement added. And that agencies will have access to sensitive data without much oversight. [KUER]
- Meanwhile, in Cedar City, people are taking things into their own hands. Hours after the city council voted 5-0 to renew its Flock Safety contract, police found four more cameras cut down and vandalized. It's the eighth incident in recent weeks. [St. George News]
