Outside of attractions like the Hogle Zoo and This Is the Place Heritage Park, do you spend much time in Foothill? It’s an often-overlooked area known for strip malls and traffic (sometimes of the elk variety). But today I make the case for the strip mall in Foothill. It might even be worth the traffic.

Frog Bench Farms

Frog Bench Farms is an urban farm tucked in a cozy neighborhood. In the colder months, they have veggies, microgreens, and beautiful dried wreaths. For all the foodies out there, they also sell verju, a sour juice made from young grapes that can be used in place of vinegar or lemon juice.

Jack’s Peak Trail

From Emigration Canyon to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, there’s no shortage of scenic places to hike or bike around Foothill. Take full advantage of those sprawling views and watch the sunset from Jack’s Peak Trail. It’s a quick hike but there are steep sections.

Foothill Village Strip Mall

OK, hear me out. You have your strip mall classics — bank, grocery store and med spa — but sprinkled in between are some quaint local shops. Grab a bouquet of flowers from Bloomingsales, feel like a kid again at The Tutoring Toy, and then stop to eat at Black Sheep Bar & Grill.

Mumbai House

Mumbai House (formerly Bombay House) serves some of the best Indian food in Salt Lake City. Try the vegetable coconut korma, chicken makhani, and the samosas.

Sasa Kitchen

Another great option for dinner is Sasa Kitchen. They have a huge menu that includes noodles, hot pot, and rice bowls.
