Salt Lake City’s municipal election is a little under a month away, but ballots will be mailed Oct. 31! There are four city council seats up for election (or re-election). Do you know who’s running? Previously, we talked about what the Salt Lake City Council does. And today, we’re letting you know who’s on the ballot.

District 2 - Poplar Grove, Glendale

  • Incumbent Alejandro Puy is running unopposed. He serves as the Chair of the Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency.

District 4 - Downtown, Central City, East Central

  • Incumbent Ana Valdemoros is a small business owner and former city planner.
  • Eva López Chávez is a former community organizer and served as a community liaison for the mayor’s office.
  • Clayton Scrivner has had various roles in public service and municipal government and holds a Masters in Public Administration.

District 6 - East Bench

  • Incumbent Dan Dugan is a Navy veteran and serves as the Redevelopment Agency’s Vice-Chair.
  • James Alfandre is an urban designer and helped with the East Bench Master Plan in 2010 as a volunteer
  • Taymour Semnani is a civil litigation attorney and board member of the Salt Lake City Police Foundation.
  • Jack Bellows is a student and community activist.

District 7 - Sugar House

  • Incumbent Sarah Young was appointed to fill the District 7 vacancy in July when Council Member Amy Fowler resigned. Sarah is the Chief of Staff to the State Superintendent for the Utah State Board of Education.
  • Molly Jones is a former English teacher and serves as a trustee on the Sugar House Community Council.

Note: Since Fowler had more than two terms left, this open seat is for a two-year term.
